"God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble."---Psalm 46:1

God is sure. He is good. He is able. He is kind. He is the blessed assurance in our unsure and rocky world. He is sure when we are on the mountain. He is sure when we are in the valley. He is sure in the wind and He is sure in the waves. He is also our home. Psalm 46:1 (NKJV) states, “He is our refuge, He is our strength, and He is our very present help in trouble.” He knows us better than we know ourselves. He created us on purpose, with purpose, and for a purpose. We can call on Him for anything and trust Him with everything. He hails from the heavenly realm. He is sovereign over all of us and all of this world. He is the Alpha and the Omega, The Beginning and The End. He is the Holy Trinity, the creator of the earth and the universe. He is the same yesterday, today, and forevermore. He will also never leave or forsake us.
Who are we to think that we are our own God? Who are we to think that we are better than He? Who are we to think that other things in this world satisfy? Truth be told, we are finite beings incapable of anything without Him. He is infinite and His ways are higher than ours. Every coin in America says “In God We Trust,” but how often do we say those words and wholeheartedly believe them? Oftentimes, we rely on the tangible because we can see it, touch it, taste it, talk to it, hear it, and feel it. Despite all of our unbelief, He still calls us His beloved. He still calls us His child and He still longs to be with us. Therefore, knowing all of these things about us, because of who He is, He still humbled Himself and came down in the flesh to be with us and walk amongst us. He who knew no sin still came down and took it on anyway because that is how much He loves us. Paul says in Ephesians 2:8-9 (NKJV), “ For by grace that we are saved through faith and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
His death on the cross did not end there, however. Instead, He rose on the third day to be with His Heavenly Father. When life goes awry, He pleads with us to ask, seek and knock. (Matthew 7:7-8 NKJV) When we do these things, we will find Him. He is always there, holding out His hand beckoning us to draw near. He longs to heal us. After all, He healed the sick, made a lame man walk, raised a dead man to life, He made a blind man see, He made a deaf man hear. and He set captives free. If He can do all of these things with them, including making a bug’s butt light up, what more do you think He can do for you? Most of the time, we do not get the answers we want in the time or in the way that we ask, so we give up. We stop short and all too easily. Instead, we need to keep humbly asking, we need to keep knocking—-knocking even if it means we knock until our knuckles are angry and bleeding, and keep seeking His face. We need to seek Him in the quiet, seek Him when we are alone, and seek Him in His Word. “Be still, and know that I am God…,” says (Psalms 46:10 NKJV). He wants the heart of the seeker most importantly to be like Him by setting aside our selfish desires and ridding ourselves of the wicked ways that so easily entrap us. Most of all, He wants us to rise, too. He wants to rise despite the mess that we are. He wants us to rise despite our setbacks. He wants us to rise because He wants us to show this broken, hurting world that they can rise and walk out of the grave, too.
When God calls us, He calls us to a higher realm that is different than that of the world. This calling us higher causes us to look up when we need answers. Calling us higher does not mean for us to be arrogant, but it does mean to be humble. Calling us higher causes us to quiet ourselves so that we can ultimately hear His voice as He beckons us to be still and know that He is God. Calling us higher does not mean for us to find strength within ourselves, but to find strength within Him. We are then made complete by ultimately finding our identity in Him instead of this world. All of our striving ceases to exist because we have a newfound freedom and rest in Him. This strength gives us bold confidence that is both supernatural and has everlasting power to impact generations for Him for years to come. Lastly, He calls us higher because He wants us to know that the world is not our home, but Heaven is.
